Fall 2026 New Restaurant Openings: What Is Coming to Sarasota and Venice

One of the things I love most about this area is how the dining scene keeps getting better. Every season brings new openings that raise the bar, and fall 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting yet. From an acclaimed Mediterranean concept making its Florida debut in downtown Sarasota to a national fast casual favorite opening its first Sarasota County location there is a lot to look forward to. Here is what I am most excited about for the months ahead.

Balos Restaurant: DC Mediterranean Comes to Downtown Sarasota

The most talked about opening of the season is Balos, an upscale Mediterranean concept from Washington, D.C., that is bringing its first Florida location to The Edge Sarasota at 290 Cocoanut Avenue in the heart of downtown. The roughly 7,200 square foot restaurant promises a contemporary Greek and Mediterranean dining experience in one of Sarasota's most anticipated new mixed use developments.

Balos has built a strong following in D.C. for its refined approach to Mediterranean cuisine, emphasizing fresh seafood, wood grilled meats, and an extensive wine list that highlights Greek and Eastern Mediterranean producers. The Sarasota location will feature both indoor and outdoor seating, with views of the downtown skyline and the bayfront park just a short walk away. For anyone who appreciates the intersection of great food and a beautiful setting, this is one to watch.

Chicken Salad Chick: First Sarasota County Location

Opening in September 2026 on Fruitville Road, east of Interstate 75, Chicken Salad Chick will make its Sarasota County debut. The fast growing chain, which originated in Auburn, Alabama, has built a devoted following with its made from scratch menu of chicken salads available in more than a dozen flavor varieties, along with soups, salads, gourmet sandwiches, and their famous cookies.

While this one falls on the casual end of the spectrum, it fills a real gap in the local market. The Fruitville Road corridor serves a large residential and commuting population that has been underserved for quality fast casual options. For families and busy professionals looking for reliable, affordable meals with real ingredients, this is a welcome addition.

What Is Happening in Venice

Venice continues to develop its dining landscape as well. Texas Roadhouse, the wildly popular steakhouse chain known for hand cut steaks, fall off the bone ribs, and fresh baked bread, is under review for a potential location at the developing Venice Crossing Commercial Center. While nothing has been finalized, the prospect of bringing one of America's most beloved restaurant chains to north Venice would be a major win for residents who currently drive to Sarasota or Fort Myers for that experience.

The same Venice Crossing development is also being discussed as a potential site for a Chick fil A, Whataburger, and Chipotle, though none of those have submitted formal applications as of this writing. The direction is clear, however: Venice is growing, and the retail and dining infrastructure is expanding to match the demand.

Where I Am Eating This Fall

Beyond the newcomers, fall is the perfect season to revisit some of the restaurants that make this area special. The weather cools just enough that outdoor dining becomes genuinely pleasant again, and the restaurants that felt crowded all summer become easier to enjoy.

I will be spending plenty of evenings at Lefty's Oyster and Seafood Bar in the Rosemary District, which continues to be one of the most consistent and enjoyable dining experiences in Sarasota. The Casa Masa opening downtown has been a revelation for anyone who appreciates truly fresh masa based Mexican cooking. And Pop's Sunset Grill in Nokomis remains my go to for a sunset dinner where the view is as good as the food.

Why Dining Matters When Choosing a Home

This might seem like a lifestyle question rather than a real estate one, but in my experience, the quality of the dining scene is one of the top factors my clients consider when choosing a neighborhood. A strong restaurant scene contributes to property values, creates walkable gathering places, and signals that an area is attracting investment and talent.
