Southwest Florida is one of the premier golf destinations in the country, and the Sarasota–Venice–Nokomis corridor is home to some of the area's finest courses. Whether you're looking for a prestigious private club with full amenities or a well-maintained public course for casual weekend rounds, this region delivers. Many of my luxury clients choose their home based partly on proximity to the courses they love. Fall is the prime season for golf here: the weather is ideal, the courses are in peak condition, and the pace of play is excellent.

The Landings Golf Course
South Sarasota / Stickney Point
The executive 18-hole course at the heart of the guard-gated Landings community in south Sarasota. The par-63 layout was designed by Ron Garl and plays roughly 4,300 yards, with a driving range and putting green. Residents enjoy walk-out-the-door golf plus an optional membership at the Landings Racquet Club, which adds eight Har-Tru tennis courts and pickleball. A polished, low-key option for buyers who want golf without full country-club membership.
The Oaks Club
Osprey / West of Trail
A 36-hole private club with two championship courses — the Heron and the Bay — designed by respected architects. The Oaks is the social and athletic heart of the West of Trail area, with tennis, fitness, dining, and a welcoming membership community. It remains one of the most sought-after club memberships in the region.
Longboat Key Club
Longboat Key
An iconic resort and private club occupying prime waterfront real estate on Longboat Key. The two courses — the Island and the Bay — offer challenging play in a stunning coastal setting. The club also features a spa, multiple restaurants, and marina access.
TPC Prestancia
Palmer Ranch
One of the most established guard-gated golf addresses in the Palmer Ranch area. Founded in 1985 by the PGA Tour as the third club in the TPC network, Prestancia offers two championship layouts, the Stadium Course and the Players Course, plus a 35,000-square-foot Mediterranean clubhouse, a 12-acre practice facility, and 24-hour gated security with golf membership optional for residents.
Sarasota National
Venice / Wellen Park area
An 18-hole championship course designed by Andy Hills within a gated, all-ages golf and country club community in the Wellen Park area of Venice. The course winds through protected wetlands with more than 1,300 acres of preserves, lakes, and an Audubon-certified bird sanctuary, offering a challenging but fair layout that appeals to all skill levels. Golf club membership is bundled in Golf Village and optional in Lake Village.
Venetian Golf & River Club
North Venice
A private, guard-gated golf community east of I-75 with an 18-hole, par 72 championship course designed by Chip Powell and opened in 1993, playing roughly 6,931 yards. The Audubon Gold Signature certified layout sits along the Myakka River, with a 20,000-square-foot clubhouse, restaurant, bar, and practice facilities. Membership is optional, and residents also enjoy six Har-Tru tennis courts, pickleball, and a 74-acre nature park with a river boardwalk.
The Meadows
Palmer Ranch / Sarasota
A well-established community golf course with three distinct nine-hole layouts that can be combined for variety. It's public-access, which makes it more accessible than many area clubs, and the course is well-maintained year-round.
Accessible Courses
Not every golfer wants a club membership. These public and semi-private courses offer excellent playing conditions without the commitment — perfect for residents and visitors alike.
Bee Ridge Country Club
East Sarasota · $$
A semi-private club with a classic 18-hole layout and a loyal local membership. The course is known for its challenging back nine and well-maintained greens.
Heritage Oaks Golf & Country Club
East Sarasota · $$
A well-regarded public course with a fair but challenging layout. Heritage Oaks attracts a mix of residents and visitors, and the pace of play is generally good.
Venice Golf & Country Club
Venice · $$
Semi-private with an 18-hole course set among mature oaks and native wetlands. It's a relaxed, unpretentious club with good value and a friendly membership.
Capri Isles Golf Club
Venice · $
An 18-hole executive-style course popular with both residents and visitors. The layout is forgiving enough for beginners but engaging enough for experienced players.
Water Oak Country Club
Nokomis / Laurel · $$$
A private club with an 18-hole course and a strong sense of community. Water Oak is popular with full-time residents who value a tight-knit membership and a relaxed pace.
