Waterfront Dining and Marinas on the Gulf Coast

Start the Day Right in Sarasota

In Sarasota, Marina Jack at 2 Marina Plaza is the anchor of the downtown waterfront. It offers a dining room, a bar, and a full-service marina with transient slips and fuel, making it the natural place to launch a boat day or end one. Just down the bayfront, O'Leary's Tiki Bar at 5 Bayfront Drive is the classic spot for a casual lunch right on the water, and The Old Salty Dog on Ken Thompson Parkway is a beloved dockside staple near City Island.

Marinas for a Boat Day

For boaters, the options are excellent. The Marina Jack Yacht Basin is the downtown hub, and Sara Bay Marina up the coast offers another full-service option. If you do not own a boat, Freedom Boat Club and Suntex Boat Club both operate rental fleets, which is a wonderfully low-commitment way to get on the water and see whether boating is part of the lifestyle you want before you buy a waterfront home.

Waterfront Dining South to Venice

As you head south, the choices only get better. In Venice, the Crow's Nest at 1968 Tarpon Center Drive combines a full-service restaurant and tavern with a marina for boaters, all overlooking the intracoastal. Sharky's On the Pier at 1600 Harbor Drive serves seafood right at the water's edge, with the upscale Fins at Sharky's offering a more refined experience upstairs. Dockside Waterfront Grill and Fisherman's Wharf Marina round out a memorable Venice waterfront itinerary.

Nokomis and the Keys

In Nokomis, Pop's Sunset Grill on the Intracoastal is a local institution with a covered deck that is one of the best sunset seats in the area, and Nokomo's Sunset Hut is a relaxed tiki-style favorite. Just south in Osprey, Casey Key Fish House and Deep Lagoon Seafood both serve fresh catch right on the water. For waterfront buyers, these are the places where you will want to be a regular.
