February 2027 on the Gulf Coast: Thunder by the Bay, Arts Festivals, and Winter Season

February is when Sarasota and Venice are at their liveliest, and the 2027 calendar proves it. The month brings Thunder by the Bay's 29th annual music festival to the fairgrounds, a pair of art festivals over Valentine's weekend, the opening of Circus Sarasota's big top, and the 38th annual Venice Italian Feast and Carnival. If you are visiting to house-hunt this month, or simply enjoying your new Gulf Coast life, here is how I would spend February.

Thunder by the Bay: Music and Motors for a Cause

The big anchor is Thunder by the Bay, which runs February 19 through 21 at the Sarasota Fairgrounds and marks its 29th year. Headliners include Cheap Trick on Friday, Bret Michaels on Saturday, and The Marshall Tucker Band on Sunday, with live music, vendors, car and bike shows, a biker rodeo, and a charity dice run filling out the weekend. The festival raises money for Suncoast Charities for Children, has generated more than $3.3 million for local children's charities across 28 years, and children 12 and under get in free. It is a bigger, friendlier scene than the name suggests, and it is one of the best people-watching weekends of the season.

Valentine's Weekend: Two Art Festivals

The weekend of February 13 and 14 is a gift for anyone who loves strolling gallery-quality work in the open air. Downtown Sarasota hosts the 39th Downtown Sarasota Festival of the Arts, filling the streets near the bayfront with juried artists working in painting, sculpture, jewelry, and more. At the same time, the Wellen Park Festival of the Arts takes over Downtown Wellen in Venice from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days with free admission and a lineup that has grown every year. Between the two, couples and families can spend the whole weekend walking, browsing, and treating themselves, with a waterfront dinner to close each day.

Circus Sarasota and a Big-Top Milestone

Sarasota is where American circus history lives, and 2027 marks 100 years of circus in Sarasota. Circus Sarasota runs February 19 through March 21 under The Big Top at University Town Center, with an all-new show celebrating the centennial. The WonderGround Gallery and the performers' warm-ups before each show make it easy for kids to fall in love with the live circus the way generations did before screens. For an adults-only evening, the Circus Arts Gala kicks off the season on Friday, February 5, under the same big top.

Music and Theater in Venice

Venice has its own full calendar. The Venice Performing Arts Center hosts the Venice Symphony's Romantic Rendezvous on Friday, February 5, and the Piano Men Generations tribute on Sunday, February 7, with more concerts through the month. On Wednesday evenings, Sun Events hosts tribute concerts at the Venice Community Center: Elton John on February 3, the Rolling Stones on February 10, the Eagles on February 17, and Simon and Garfunkel on February 24. Opera lovers can catch Sarasota Opera's winter season, which brings La traviata, H.M.S. Pinafore, and Ariadne auf Naxos to the stage through March.

The Venice Italian Feast and Carnival

February closes with the 38th annual Venice Italian Feast and Carnival, February 25 through 28 at the Venice Airport. It is an old-school Italian festival done the community way: food booths, a carnival midway, and the kind of crowd where you run into everyone you know. Mark the last weekend of the month for it, and bring an appetite.

Why February Is the Month to See This Place

I tell out-of-state buyers that the best time to visit is the week you can actually imagine living here, and February shows the Gulf Coast in full season: perfect weather, full calendar, and the vibe that makes people fall in love with the area. If your house-hunting trip happens to land on these dates, even better, you will see the community at its happiest.

Let's Plan Your February Visit

Whether you are coming for the music, the art, or a first look at waterfront homes, I would love to help you plan a trip that fits it all together. Tell me your dates and I will line up showings around the best of the month, with dinner tables to match. Thanks so much, and warmly, Julie.
